The Ultimate goal of this oranization is to become a non profit charity so we could fund a scholarship for a student from the SW Washington area to attend the University of Oregon.
A couple years ago, a few DUCk season ticket holders began to discuss ways for each of us , to get together to watch the DUCK football away games that were televised. That way, we would never miss any DUCK games and be surrounded by others who felt the same way. As the word spread, that we were getting together more frequently to watch DUCK games, more people began to show interest, and the Quackerbackers were formed so as to put some organization to the group. We then approached the managment of Big Al's in Vancouver about letting us spread the word to all fellow DUCK fans about joining us up at Big Al's on their 55ft screen to watch all televised games. ( uopdate 8/6/12 we have now moved to Brewtopia located in Westfield Vancouver Mall)
As our group began to grow, the DUCK Athletic Fund (DAF) The Oregon Club Of Portland (OCOP) and the UofO Alumni Association (Alumni) began to hear about our group and how we were getting large numbers of DUCK fans together to watch games, (500 people attended Big Al's for the 2009 Civil War game), so questions were asked and they wanted to know "who are these quackerbackers?"
A few representatives attended an OCOP meeting and introductions were made. We described who we were, and what we had to offer the U of O, the DAF, and OCOP. We were then encouraged to run with what we were doing and to continue to build the quackerbackers to a level where we could one day become the Oregon Club of SW Washington. With the backing of the DAF, OCOP and Alumni, we began formal discussions with Big Al's in Vancouver to become the Official Watch Party Location of the Quackerbackers of SW Washington. Big Al's jumped on board and we now have a location that supports our group. As part of the group we are setting up, the DAF would like us to work more closely with the OCOP until we can become large enough to support ourselves. The OCOP already has the support systems in place the we may be able to piggyback and borrow on. So we encourage all members to Join the OCOP and help us support them. We are all in it for the same reasons, to Support the University of Oregon in anyway we can.
